Senior 3D Mechanical Designer

About the role
As Senior 3D Mechanical Designer, you will lead the delivery of mechanical design solutions from concept through to manufacture, supporting operations and projects across the business. This role combines hands-on design expertise with leadership of CAD systems, processes, and standards, helping to drive quality, consistency, and continuous improvement within the drafting function.
Working closely with internal stakeholders and external contractors, you will provide technical guidance, support project delivery, prioritise drafting activities, and champion best-practice design methodologies across the team.
Key Responsibilities
Develop mechanical designs from concept through to detailed manufacturing drawings.
Maintain and update drawings in accordance with document control requirements.
Create and update P&IDs and assist with site layout and civil design drawings.
Manage CAD software platforms, licensing, and AutoDeskVault Professional administration.
Lead CAD system improvements, upgrades, and optimisation initiatives.
Develop and maintain drafting standards, templates, and standard operating procedures.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training to the drafting team.
Support major business development and capital projects with specialist design expertise.
Oversee drafting workflows and coordinate external CAD contractor services.
Facilitate the prioritisation of drawing requests across business units.

About you
You are an experienced mechanical design professional who combines strong technical expertise with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A relevant Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automation, or Civil Engineering degree.
Proficiency in Autodesk products, particularly Inventor, Vault Professional, AutoCAD, and Plant 3D (or equivalent SolidWorks software).
Engineering experience in manufacturing or heavy industry.
3+ years' experience in a similar engineering design role.
Strong knowledge of engineering standards, manufacturing drawings and tolerancing.
Advanced CAD skills, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Strong planning, organisation and time management skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
A proactive, can-do attitude with leadership and mentoring capability.
