About the opportunity
As one of the Maintenance Fitters in our Lumber business unit, you’ll be a vital member of our mechanical engineering team, supporting operations across our Sawmill, Drymill, and Kilns. This hands-on role offers a dynamic mix of workshop and on-site tasks, where your focus will be on keeping production running smoothly by reducing downtime and ensuring equipment reliability.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring our plant runs smoothly and efficiently. You’ll be responsible for:
Performing scheduled preventative maintenance
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical breakdowns
Supporting overall plant reliability and availability
Collaborating with other tradespeople and operators
Contributing to continuous improvement and maintenance strategies
This role is a shift position working four 12-hour shifts. The roster pattern is: 2 days 6.00am-6.00pm, 2 nights 6.00pm – 6.00am, 4 days off. This role is based at our Whirinaki site, 15 minutes north of Napier.

About you
You are a proactive problem‑solver with strong mechanical expertise who stays composed and collaborative under pressure.
You bring:
NZQA Level 4 Mechanical Engineering Trade Certificate (or equivalent)
Experience in manufacturing or heavy industry
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Solid understanding of engineering principles and safety standards
A can-do attitude and reliable work ethic
A strong focus on health and safety in everything you do
Willingness to work night shifts
